Mmmmm...mojitos. I so wish my life could be melded with an all-inclusive vacation.

And we went to Mexico - the Mayan Riviera specifically. I think Cuba is next though.

Respectfully disagree - There is a lot of name calling on both sides, but what do you expect - its politics and once you take away the colours they are all the same - spoiled brats spewing propoganda with half truths and lies. There is only one thing I know for certain - You can't trust anyone in politics in Canada because if you do you are an idiot and get what you deserve. That being said I have read the Act and in my opinion has very little to do with Bullying. I am sure we can all find Gay and straight people who have been bullied including my own kids. You really want to stop bullying? Give the schools the necessary power to stop the bullies and make people (and parents ) responsible for their actions for once.

Thanks Jeremy!

Now I know where the appreciation for Mojitos comes from. You guys were right - anything beyond four or five days starts to feel long (I was there for seven.) By the same token though, it ensured that I felt like I got everything there was to get from that escape.

I'm heading back to work tomorrow, and I'm not feeling like I need a "vacation from the vacation."

Were was it you guys had gone?

I agree with you.

The argument that this would contravene freedom of religion is baseless, but doing so gives a false sense that it's of equal merit to the plight of the students. The truth I suspect is that religion is simply a convenient excuse which which to exercise prejudice.

To see the illegitimacy of the religious freedoms argument, one only has to look at what activity will be curtailed by this legislation. Schools will no longer be able to ban support groups.

Does this infringe on the well being of the religious people? Of course not. How are their personal freedoms impeded by the existence of a support group? They are not.

I'm saddened by the continued hostility displayed towards queer youth by many religious and political leaders in this province. I can only hope that one day, Catholicism will no longer be associated with bigotry - an association that they fully deserve today.

Thank you Julien, for clarifying this issue at all levels through your thorough blogging which documented the argument. The fears arising by 'Catholic' organisations, who demonstrate rigidities in their attitudes toward fellow Christians and non-Christians of differing sexual orientations, is a hypocritical stance which goes against their supposed 'charitable and inclusive' dogmas. It is also a most harmful stance toward vulnerable homosexual youth and does nothing to protect and empower them. This whole debate should never have been centered on religious freedoms. Descrimination against children and youth in our schools, based on their sexual orientation, has long been kept hushed. Too many have deeply suffered because of the many types of bullying to which they've been subjected in Ontario schools.
